A report on the future of the book will be launched tomorrow at a Future of Publishing event, supported by the Creative Industries iNet and led by South West Screen.
The Future of Publishing: A Report on Innovation and the Future of the Book, investigates these questions, and will be officially launched at Publish! A Day of Innovation on the Future of the Book , which takes place tomorrow at the Watershed in Bristol.
How can companies in publishing compete with the likes of Amazon, Apple and Google? How can they use innovation to stay ahead of the game?
The report - available here to download - is written by Alastair Horne, Innovations Manager for Cambridge University Press’s New Directions Group, a regular blogger on The Bookseller’s FutureBook and Twitter reporter @pressfuturist.
It draws on the expertise of over 20 professionals from publishing and technology sectors, highlighting the concerns, insights and the future direction of the industry. Who is being innovative today? How can we be more innovative tomorrow? How we can use technology, research and an understanding of future trends to help publishing companies flourish?
As well as being an industry briefing, the report is intended to help prepare participants for the discussions at Publish!
There will also be an iPad version of the report at Publish! which showcases an innovative new process from Padify, which makes it easier for publishers to repackage their content into ebooks, digital magazines or apps for publication on iPads and other mobile devices.
Michael Kowalski, CEO of Contentment, will be demonstrating how he used Padify to create a digital version of the report, alongside presenters including Meg Geldens, CFO of Touch Press; Chris Book, CEO of Bardowl; Charles Catton, Publishing Manager at Amber Books; Naomi Alderman, novelist, journalist and games writer; David Burton, Head of Innovation at Redweb; William Higham, Managing Director of The Next Big Thing; and Dean Johnson, Executive Creative Director at Brandwidth.
