Luke Johnson closing speech

Luke Johnson, Risk Capital Partners

Luke Johnson (Chairman of Risk Capital Partners, ex-Chairman of Channel 4) closed the proceedings, with a powerfully upbeat assessment of the opportunities for creative entrepreneurs in the present economic climate, claiming that “entrepreneurs are vital to the future of the economy”.

He also acknowledged the need for specialist mentoring and advice, without which many new creative businesses are likely to fail. He stressed the importance of companies maintaining good relationships with their investors, and noted that the nature of the sector is that it is small and dynamic, stating that “the bigger a company gets, the harder it is to be creative; the downsides of failure in big organisations are often bigger than the upsides of successes.”
