Caroline Norbury introduction

Caroline Norbury, South West Screen

Caroline opened the conference, saying "At South West Screen we see lots of great ideas and great people not flying because they simply can’t access the right type of finance.  I also see those who we have helped – often with tiny bits of money – who have flown.  They have taken £10-15k from us to develop their proof of concept and on the back of this won a key commission, or some first tier investment.  So personally I think there is a role for someone to bridge that gap between government policy and the commercial imperatives of investment.

"And that is what we’re seeking to do today.  We’ve invited policy makers,  investors, business leaders, creative mavericks, business fixers and brokers to this seminar. What we are seeking to do is to marry common purpose and common cause, to develop new approaches to supporting those creative businesses that are going to create the stuff that people want to consume.

After the conference, Caroline said: “Gathered together for these two days of intensive ideas development were some of the biggest names in investment, economics and CIs. The wealth of experience and expertise in the room was unbelievable, and as a result we have gained a clear understanding of what changes need to be made, and been able to put in place working groups tasked with making solutions happen. It’s clear to me that these key players really buy in to the fact that working together will strengthen this sector, and I look forward to seeing practical outcomes from this valuable event emerge in the future.”
