Digital Shorts is the South West region’s key development and production initiative for new and emerging filmmakers. Digital Shorts 2010 commissioned four films, with running times of under 10 minutes, at budgets of between £10,000 - £15,000. 

The commissioned films were drawn from a ‘development pool’ of nine projects/filmmaking teams who were supporting through an intense eight week development phase, working with a professional development executive, producers and other collaborators. The nine teams were whittled down to the final four which made it into full production. (You can find out more about the nine teams and their projects here.)

 

The four greenlit films, which shot in summer 2010, are:


LITTLE WHITE LIES (13’)  

Directed by Stuart Napier
Written by Jenny Davies,  Produced by Raymond Day, A 123 Media Production

Two young brothers, both in temporary foster care, look forward to a picnic with Mum but the unexpected arrival of Mum’s new boyfriend Greg, has unforeseen and dramatic consequences.

What do the boys recognise in Greg that Mum can't? Does the family need protecting from this stranger? A chance event gives the boys an opportunity to solve the problem but will they make the right decision?

I’LL TELL YOU (9’ 44”)

Lola, 14, romanticises the memories of two teenagers who she once hung out with, Zaina and Kad. At war with a mother who’ll never understand her, Lola feels propelled to tell an intimate tale about what love is.



SMALL TALK

Eva, a seven year old mute girl, communicates via pre-recorded tapes played on a clunky tape deck which hangs round her neck on a rope. When her crippled father’s physiotherapist, Maggie, is set to walk out of their lives forever, it comes down to Eva to get the floundering lovers past the small talk stage before it is too late.
